THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and Montgomery County Emergency Services District 14 Commissioners invite the community to join them at their bi-annual Open House and Public Forum Saturday, April 13 beginning at 4pm at the Fire Station, 3434 Royal Oaks, Spring, 77387.

There will be an opportunity to meet the firefighters, the officers, hear about the new equipment purchased to serve the needs of the community more efficiently, and learn about the growth plans for the future. Food will be served after the informative meeting.

“Anyone who is a resident of the Timber Lakes/Timber Ridge Subdivision and the homes and businesses along Sawdust Road between Glenloch and Sawmill Road is in Emergency Services District 14 (ESD 14) is welcome to attend and share their concerns about the increased needs for fire protection and safety in our area”, said ESD 14 President, Lanny Dreesen.

“ESD 14 and the Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department are here to serve the community with fire protection and other first response medical attention in a timely and professional manner. To better acquaint residents with our firefighters and response equipment and to layout our plans to meet future needs, you are invited to join us and get any questions answered. We will be discussing our plans for a sales tax election in May and paid firefighter results over the past year along with other items.”

The Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department with ESD 14 serve the residents of Timber Lakes/Timber Ridge subdivision and surrounding areas serving approximately 5000 individuals and 3 square miles in South Montgomery County.

In 2016, a 1% sales tax election allowed the hiring of part-time paid firefighters to ensure that the station had responding paid and volunteer staff 24/7. The plan was implemented in January 2018 and resulted in a shortened average call response time from 7 minutes 40 seconds in 2017 to 5 minutes 31 seconds in 2018. There is continued growth expected in the area which will need additional fire protection. The original fire station was built in 1969 and can no longer adequately accommodate the equipment or firefighters for storage, training or sleeping quarters.

There is a sales tax election May 4 with Early Voting April 22 for an additional 1% sales tax to assist the needs of ESD 14.

Dreesen encourages community participation, “Learn about the proposal, ask questions, and get to know your neighborhood firefighters that are serving you and your family.”
