MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On May 1, 2019, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office celebrated the second anniversary of the V.E.T.S. Program. V.E.T.S (Veterans Embracing the Tools for Success), is a program designed to provide Veterans incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail with valuable resources in one central location. The program also affords them the opportunity to engage in a military culture that is second-nature to them.

The V.E.T.S. program partners with different organizations to further address any post-incarceration needs, and potentially provide employment opportunities for the Veterans in order to decrease the recidivism rate. During their stay in the program, the Veterans work with organizations such as Refuge Trauma & Counseling, Tri County Behavioral Healthcare, Armatus Reintegration, Montgomery County Veteran Services, and many others to improve the Veterans’ overall well-being.

Program administrator Sergeant Kimberly Anderson said “These men and women served their country. They came back, and they ran into some issues. It’s our duty to assist them in these issues, and get them back on the right track.” Since its inception, over 260 incarcerated Veterans have participated in the program with an average recidivism rate of 18%.
