MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On May 5th, 2019 at approximately 4:55 pm, the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constables Office Lake Division was called to the Palms Marina Drive in Willis, Texas. Initially reports were that a car had driven into Lake Conroe with someone still inside. Constable Lake Deputies arrived on location and pulled an elderly individual from the vehicle.

Deputies learned through the investigation that the driver was in the process of retrieving his mobility scooter near the lake. It appears that the driver did not place the car's shifter into the parked position before trying to exit the vehicle. The vehicle started rolling toward the lake. In the rush to get the vehicle to stop, the driver's prosthetic leg became wedged between the brake and gas pedal: causing the vehicle to speed into the water, turn on its side with the driver still inside.

Constable Deputies extracted the driver from the vehicle: he was checked by ESD 1 Fire Boat 94 and MC EMS. Fortunately no one was injured and the vehicle is being removed from the lake.

This is not an isolated incident as this happens several times a season. Boaters forget to place their vehicle's shifter into the parked position before launching their boat. Whether you are in your driveway, parking lot or boat launch, please make sure your vehicle is securely in park before attempting to exit.
