The Spirit Golf Association Appoints Todd Alfred as President

HOUSTON, TX -- The Spirit Golf Association (SGA) welcomes Todd Alfred as President. Alfred will be responsible for executing the mission and vision of the association, as well as meeting annual established financial goals and implementing the long-term strategic plan. His role includes conducting the biennial Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship, driving awareness of National Membership to Whispering Pines Golf Club, and the distribution of charitable grants. In addition, Alfred will direct day to day operations of the SGA and implementation of the SGA’s policies set by the Board.

Alfred comes to the SGA with over 20 years of sports marketing and business development experience within the international professional golf industry. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Illinois- based Western Golf Association and Evans Scholars Foundation (WGAESF). He established the organization’s first ever corporate partnership program in support of its college scholarship for caddies (the Chick Evans Scholarship), worked with the PGA TOUR on the BMW Championship entitlement, and integrated updated social media content and streaming of its golf events in order to reach a wider market.

From 2004-2015, Alfred worked for the PGA of America in a variety of business development and tournament roles related to the Ryder Cup, PGA Championship, Senior PGA Championship, Women’s PGA Championship, and the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

In 2003, Alfred successfully completed a seven-figure capital campaign for the Chicago District Golf Association and built the largest grass roots golf program for individuals with disabilities, called “Sunshine Through Golf.”

In 1995, Alfred was awarded the Chick Evans Scholarship, becoming the first caddie from the Merit Club of Libertyville Illinois, to receive the full tuition and housing scholarship. He attended Indiana University and graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology. Alfred and his wife, Gail, are in the process of relocating to The Woodlands from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. They have two children, Benjamin (13) and Lucy (12).
