The Woodlands Township Board holds meeting

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019, at The Woodlands Township Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard in The Woodlands, Texas.

At the start of the meeting, the Board of Directors issued two proclamations.

To celebrate The Legacy Preparatory Christian Academy Lady Lions for their 2019 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 3A State Track Championship Title, the Board of Directors proclaimed June 20, 2019 as Legacy Preparatory Christian Academy Lady Lions State Champions Day in The Woodlands, Texas.

In recognition of Chief Alan B. Benson’s 14 years of service to The Woodlands Township, the Board of Directors proclaimed June 20, 2019 as Fire Chief Alan B. Benson Day in The Woodlands, Texas. Chief Benson became the fifth Fire Chief of The Woodlands in January 2005 and his extensive experience allowed him to lead The Woodlands Fire Department through many natural disasters in The Woodlands including Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Harvey. Chief Benson retired from The Woodlands Fire Department on May 2, 2019 and will be greatly missed by the organization and The Woodlands community.

Before addressing agenda items, President/General Manager Don Norrell recognized two Township employees that have received awards recently. Visit The Woodlands Convention Development Manager, Josie Lewis, earned the distinguished designation of Certified Meeting Planner from Meeting Planners International. Visit The Woodlands President Nick Wolda was also recognized for earning the designation of Certified Tourism Executive from the Texas Travel Industry Association. Mr. Wolda also serves on the statewide Board of Directors for the travel industry.

The Board of Directors took the following actions on the Consent Agenda:

Received Administrative Reports from Township Departments.
Approved the conveyance of open space reserves in the Village of Creekside Park West for parks, ponds and pathways and pathway easements in the Villages of Creekside Park and Indian Springs.
Approved the lapse of passenger ferry capital grant funding originally awarded to Brazos Transit District by the Federal Transit Administration.
Approved a resolution for nomination to the Montgomery Central Appraisal District Board election.
Awarded a bid for 2019-2022 electrical services.
Awarded a bid for pathway stencils and crosswalks project.
Awarded a bid for the construction of tennis courts at Bear Branch Park.
The Board of Directors then moved on to take the following actions on the Regular Agenda:

Approved the release of a Request for Proposal for a Service Agreement for Event Production Services.
Took no action on Incorporation Planning Study matters.
Received and accepted an emergency preparedness briefing.
Deferred an Assignment of Tax Abatement Agreement from The Woodlands Land Development Company and Alight to 8770 New Trails Holding, LLC.
Rejected all submitted bids for 2019-2022 Township Tree Lighting Services and directed a rebid the contract with a reduced scope of work.
Approved a resolution supporting the transfer of transit assets (both real and personal property) and transit operations from The Brazos Transit District to The Woodlands Township. The assets include six (6) trolleys and Park and Ride facilities.
