THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital has appointed Reverend Randall W. Trego Director of Spiritual Care.

In his role as the newly commissioned director of spiritual care, The Reverend Trego will lead and provide support for Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital patients, families and staff of all faiths, which includes the hospital’s numerous chaplains, volunteer lay ministers and other faith group volunteers.

“It’s an incredible opportunity because it really allows me to do what I’ve been called to do and that is to meet people in their time of need,” said Reverend Trego.

A standing room only crowd of Houston Methodist Hospital leadership along with family, friends and members of the community attended the special commissioning service recently held inside of Rose Chapel, located on the campus of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.

The Reverend Trego’s commissioning is a continuation of the Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital’s I CARE values and the core strengths of inspiring, engaging, sustaining and serving others.

“There is no better person to lead the spiritual care at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital with his incredible passion and alliance of our I CARE values of Houston Methodist. He brings a rich history of experience within the health care ministry,” said Debra F. Sukin, Regional Senior Vice President, Houston Methodist CEO, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.

“We’re genuinely excited to have Randall Trego. He brings tremendous depth and inspiration,” said The Reverend Charles R. Millikan, D. Minister, Vice President Spiritual Care and Values Integration, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.

Bishop Robert Hayes, who delivered the Homily added, “I’m excited to be a part of this and to be associated with an institution that embraces the spiritual side of it.”

“What I do is filled with inexhaustible joy because of what it does with people,” said Trego. He added a message for the volunteer and chaplains he will lead, “They are the presenters of light while the dawn is still dark. I would like for them to know how important they are to the whole healing process.”

The Reverend received his Master of Divinity degree in 1987 from The Virginia Theological Seminary. He was later ordained as an Episcopal priest and has served in various ministry positions throughout his career including as chaplain and director in the St. Luke’s Health System from 2001 through 2014. He has served in parish ministry at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Houston, where he is currently the Locum Tenens, as interim minister. He is a Board Certified Chaplain through The Association of Professional Chaplains.
