THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Dragon Football and Volleyball Teams Continue Win Streaks. Results from the week of September 9.

VARSITY FOOTBALL

9/13 at Bay Area Christian • 21-0 WIN
Coach Erik DeHaven: The Dragons win again, 21-0 for 3-0 on the season. We played a very physical Bay Area Christian football team on Friday night. The offense had 234 yards with 211 in the air. The story of the night was on the defense side of the ball which held Bay Area Christian to 184 total yards. Bay Area Christian had 67 rushes for 153 yards, averaging 2.2 yards a carry and 31 total passing yards.

Our defense is running a new scheme and our kids are buying into what we are doing. We have run this defense for three weeks now and we continue to improve. This was a sloppy physical game on both sides of the ball. On offense, we are very close to where we want to be. Once we get everyone doing their job we will be hard to stop. I am very proud of our team’s efforts once again. This was a great game for our players and team before the playoffs begin next week.

Players of the Week:

Team MVP: Cameron Reed • (second consecutive week) 2 rushes for 2 TD’s – 6 Solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble

Offensive MVP: Thomas Elkhoury • 8 receptions – 156 yards – 1 TD

Defensive MVP: Jake Peterson • 6 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 1 tackle for a loss

Special Team MVP: James Araya • 100% PAT – great onside kick – 1 tackle on kick off

Scout Team Offense: Ben Currin

Scout Team Defense: Evan Harrison

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

9/12 vs The Village School • 3-0 WIN
25-8, 25-16, 25-22
The Dragons sweep The Village School in a dominating fashion, keeping their win streak alive for a 24-2-2 season.
Laura Weatherford tallied 12 digs
Lauren Wolford had 24 assists

9/12 at Northland Christian • 3-0 WIN
24-13, 25-20, 25-23

Coach Ray Hedden: Dragon varsity took on last year’s state finalists, Northland Christian, in their gym. Winning in straight sets 24-13, 25-20 and 25-23. Season record so far is 25-2-2.

AC Adam, Amaya Harrell and Hailey Huettel led the attack with all leading the teams in kills. Just when Northland would get some momentum, it would only take setting one of them and they would have a statement kill that would just take the air out of Northland’s attack.

Lauren Wolford led the offense and also led the team in attacks.

Laura Weatherford continued her lead in digs for the team, taking many would be kills from Northland Christian’s big hitter.

Overall it was a great performance by our dragons who carry that momentum into next week where we start SPC play against St. Stephens and St. Andrews in Friday and Saturday. It would be great to see some home team support this weekend!

Congratulations to Head Volleyball Coach Ray Hedden, on 100 career victories in his fourth year coaching at The John Cooper School.
