THE WOODLANDS, TX -- A coastal low will bring showers and thunderstorms into the region Thursday night into Friday morning, then a cold front will push through Friday afternoon which will bring an end to the rain by Saturday.

The precipitation that the region will be seeing Thursday night into Friday will come from two main sources: A weak low developing off the coast and a cold front pushing in from the west. Ahead of the front, showers and thunderstorms embedded in the southwesterly flow aloft and will be enhanced by the coastal low. The exact amount of precipitation depends on the speed and strength of the cold front. If the front is faster, it will end the precipitation driven by the coastal low earlier resulting in a lower amount of rain. If the front is slower, the moisture from the coastal low will make it way further inland and linger longer (possible into Saturday morning) resulting in higher rain totals.

Our concerns are for Southeast Texas, where soils are saturated. Forecast rainfall could generate river responses, and possibly minor river flooding. At this time, we focusing on the lower ends of the Trinity, Neches, and Sabine Rivers. The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will continue to monitor the upcoming weather situation, and provide updates as statuses change.
