THE WOODLANDS, TX – Children's Lighthouse of The Woodlands recently hosted Kevin Garcia, defender and number 16 for the Houston Dynamos, at its location to spend time with six-year-old Jose Gutierrez.

Gutierrez is currently battling Atypical Teratoid Rapdboid Tumor (ATRT), a rare and fast- growing cancer that affects the brain and spinal cord. After finding out that Jose is a huge soccer fan, the director at Childrens Lighthouse of The Woodlands, Joanne Webster, reached out to the Houston Dynamos to see if someone from their team could come play with Jose. Garcia was more than happy to oblige and spent time playing with Gutierrez, his siblings and several other children at the school.

“Jose is such a bright child with an infectious energy that lights up the room every time he visits our school, so it was an honor to be able to facilitate this meeting,” said Webster. “Being that Jose is a huge soccer fan, he had an immediate bond with Kevin. To see the smile on Jose’s face was priceless.”

To continue their support of Gutierrez and his family, and to raise awareness for ATRT, the team at Childrens Lighthouse of The Woodlands is hosting their first annual ATRT Fundraiser on Monday, December 9 at Chick-fil-A. Located at 25630 Kuykendahl Road in Tomball, the event will raise money for Childrens Lighthouse to buy soccer balls for Jose to deliver to the other children in the oncology ward at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Attendees are encouraged to mention the ATRT Fundraiser prior to paying at the register and Chick-Fil-A of Tomball will donate 10% of all related proceeds to the cause between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. on December 9. Any mention of the fundraiser after paying will not be included in the donation percentage. The Houston Dynamos have also offered to donate soft plastic balls to the children in the oncology ward at Texas Children’s hospital.

The mission of Childrens Lighthouse is to connect families together with independent franchise owners in an effort to enrich communities through a relationship based on safety and trust. Additionally, franchisees across the network are actively involved with their local communities and regularly give back through volunteering, donations and more.
