Houston Women March On Leads March to Ignite Momentum for the 2020 Election

HOUSTON, TX -- On Jan. 25, Houston Women March On (HWMO) will hold its fourth annual march with the motto: “Powerful Together.” Thousands of women and allies are expected to march.

“We are proud to continue the tradition established in 2017 – gathering with women and allies from across the region to celebrate unity among women of all backgrounds,” said Janice Character, HWMO Vice-President.

Marchers will gather at the Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park at 105 Sabine Street and march to the Nau Family Pavilion in Eleanor Tinsley Park, where a rally will be held with grassroots speakers representing progressive organizations and ideals. Marchers will be joined by public officials as well as candidates for office.

“Marching with us is a catalyst for progressive change,” said Robin Paoli, HWMO President. “Women who march go on to volunteer for causes, support candidates, start new organizations, and run for office. One of our new Houston City Council Members marched with us in 2017, was inspired to take action to create a better world, and was just elected to public office. More women are visibly leading change than ever before.”

The Houston March kicks off a year of advocacy for voter registration and education, the 2020 Primaries, the decennial Census, and the national general elections in November.

“This year’s march theme, ‘Powerful Together,’ reflects our focus on harnessing the strength of women for good,” said HWMO 2020 March Director Sheila Blake.

The expanded gathering point at the Water Works at Sabine and the march route along Allen Parkway will include opportunities for action from local, state and national justice organizations, music, dance, food trucks, sign-making, portable restrooms, and ADA access.
