Warrant Round-Up Begins March 7th

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable Philip Cash and Judge Wayne Mack, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, are among the law enforcement agencies and Judges Offices across The State of Texas participating in this years Warrant Round-Up. Local law enforcement will join other regional participants in this annual event to locate individuals with outstanding warrants. The Round-Up is scheduled to begin Saturday, March 7. County Law Enforcement officials are encouraging individuals with warrants to contact the appropriate court to resolve their cases voluntarily.

In 2018 Constable Cash and Judge Mack initiated a door hanger notice program where Precinct 1 Deputies place door hangers on the violators last known address; asking the wanted person, named in the warrant to contact the judge's office to prevent arrest. This past year (2019), deputies have knocked on or placed door hangers on approximately 4000 doors of potential violators in an effort to reduce the number of outstanding local warrants.

Under Texas Law, individuals who appear before a court and make a good faith effort to resolve their outstanding Class C Warrants are afforded safe harbor and not subject to arrest. Additionally, if a judgment is rendered against an individual who is unable to pay the judgment, the individual may request a judge assess their ability to pay and offer alternative means to satisfy the judgment.

Once the arrest period begins, officers will aggressively seek out wanted individuals. Arrests can take place at any location, including the defendant's home, workplace or school.

If you receive a door hanger and fail to contact the judge's office, you could be arrested, have your vehicle towed and confined in jail; all this can be avoided by contacting the judge's office and taking care of your warrant.
