HOUSTON, TX - This afternoon at 1 pm, a Houston Food Bank truck will pick up a variety of foods being donated by the RCS Carnival Group concession operators as a result of the shutdown of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and its carnival.

This is definitely a silver lining in the unfortunate closure of the beloved Rodeo because of COVID-19.

“We realized that there was a great opportunity to help feed thousands of families with product that we purchased for our business at the rodeo carnival which has been cancelled,” says Dominic Palmieri, owner of RCS Carnival Group, who operates five popular food booths at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo annually and at events around the country. “We have been so blessed to be part of the Houston community for the past 27 years. The RCS carnival vendors felt that it was important to try and give back to the community as much as possible, and are certainly looking forward to coming back again next year.”

Among the items being donated are bread, produce, dairy and some meats.

Unfortunately for many of the vendors who came to Houston to sell at the Rodeo, this is not the only business loss they have/will suffer – some say that they may not work again until July, as shows/events they were planning to go to after the Rodeo have also been cancelled.

The Houston Food Bank truck will pick up the donated items around 1 pm at NRG, Gate 6 off 610 feeder past Fannin exit, before Kirby Drive.

This food is extremely helpful during the current situation. The Houston Food Bank and their partners are essential services. The people they serve almost by definition do not have food reserves. Houston Food Bank will remain operational, while utilizing the best available safety precautions. The Food Bank needs volunteers to help sort and pack food for distribution.
