MAGNOLIA, TX -- Magnolia ISD Superintendent, Todd Stephens release the following statement:

Dear MISD Parents and School Community,

I want to share with you as much information as I have available about our schools’ closures in response to COVID-19 concerns. Currently, schools in Montgomery County and Harris County and many others around the State are closed as an attempt to slow the community spread of this virus in public schools. Out of an abundance of caution and to help prevent further spread of the virus, our area school Superintendents decided collectively to close schools. The decision was difficult but I am confident the right one for Magnolia ISD.

I have daily phone briefings with the Texas Education Agency, The Texas Department of Health Services as well as Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management regarding the current status of public health and our schools. So we have the latest information available to help with informed decisions regarding our students and schools.
I wish I could reassure everyone that this closure will only be a short duration. Collectively as Superintendents in the Greater Houston Region, we have made the very difficult decision to close schools through Friday, April 10th, with a plan to reevaluate April 6th . We will be communicating information prior to returning as each day brings new information.

We are currently working on a plan that includes some type of at-home learning options for students guided by our teachers. Our administration is working on the challenges associated with this remote learning initiative in order to provide a method of learning for our students. Teachers are closing the 3rd nine-weeks and report cards will be available online through the parent portal on Monday, March 23.

The UIL has canceled all UIL, athletics, fine arts, practices and academic competitions through March 29th. We have also canceled all after school activities and practices effective immediately. I certainly understand the disappointment this brings to our students involved in these activities. We will assess this decision as needed.

I am confident we will get through this challenge together. I know that school closures are difficult for our families and students. I promise we will be working diligently during the upcoming days to ensure we make the best decisions for our students and families in Magnolia ISD during this time.

Please refer to the MISD website for updated links regarding current COVID-19 information. Watch your email for any changes or updates from MISD regarding changes about school and student-related information.
