HOUSTON, TX -- The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant socio-economic impact on the communities in which we work and live. In times like these, charitable organizations are relied on by the most vulnerable people in our communities. Families living in poverty, the isolated elderly, people with disabilities, and a growing number of recently unemployed are all facing desperate times.

Civeo loans commercial mobile kitchen in the event the Food Bank needs to adjust to an offsite alternative

“In times of crisis, we rely on the strength of our local corporations to support our communities. At Civeo, one of our values is our commitment to care for others,” says Bradley Dodson, Civeo president and CEO. When we heard that the Houston Food Bank needed a contingency plan to keep its operations going, we were happy to donate the use of our 12’ x 40’ mobile galley kitchen. This mobile kitchen will ensure the Food Bank is able to continue delivering much-needed meals to our vulnerable community members throughout this pandemic. We are proud to be supporting the Houston Food Bank, and the vital work it does in our community.”

From its 10,000 square-foot Keegan Kitchen, the Food Bank prepares hot meals for those in need. “We are currently making more than 11,000 meals a day, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and shelf-stable options,” says Brian Greene, Houston Food Bank president/CEO. “It is critical that we don’t miss a day.”

Understanding that a potential coronavirus contamination of the kitchen could result in a shutdown for a 24-hour deep clean of the facility, Greene was in need of a contingency back-up food production space to ensure no lapse in service. Enter Civeo. Sourced from their Belle Chase, Louisiana location, Civeo has donated the use of a 12’ x 40’ mobile galley kitchen. The unit has been set up at the Houston Food Bank’s Portwall Street location and is ready to operate if a coronavirus exposure happens in the facility’s commercial kitchen.

“We will not fail our community and that is because of you, Civeo,” says Greene. “Thank you for supplying this critical infrastructure when it is most needed.”
