Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Seizes 8 Kilograms of Heroin in Conroe
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On Friday September 4th, 2020, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputy assigned to the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team was patrolling in the area of Interstate 45 and South Loop 336 when he observed a black vehicle traveling south at speeds greater than the posted speed limit. A traffic stop with this vehicle was initiated in the area of Interstate 45 and FM 1488. During the course of the investigation, several individually wrapped bundles were discovered in the vehicle. Further inspection of the bundles yielded approximately 8 kilograms of Heroin with a street value of approximately $800,000 dollars. The driver, identified as Hugo Sanchez-Sonanes DOB:7/12/1999, and passenger, identified as Joaquin Sonanes-Maldonado DOB:7/2/1972, were subsequently placed into custody for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without incident.
The Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team is a cooperative multi-agency task force which consists of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables Offices, Texas Department of Public Safety-CID, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Walker County District Attorney’s Office, Customs and Border Protection - Houston Air and Marine Operations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Homeland Security Investigations. Participating agencies recognized that a special collaborative effort was necessary to more effectively combat the drug distribution and collection of drug proceeds throughout the area.
