MCTX Sheriff Investigates Fatal Shooting

PINEHURST, TX -- On October 29, 2020, at about 1:20am, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a shots fired call at Shane’s Saloon in Pinehurst, Texas. Upon arrival, Deputies found 41 year old Eric Gray lying on the ground in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to the torso. Mr. Gray was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital – The Woodlands where he later succumbed to his wounds. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide - Violent Crimes Unit, Crime Lab Investigators, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Mr. Gray was shot by an individual identified as 50 year old Michael Gaulden, who was transported by ambulance to the HCA Conroe Hospital where he was treated for multiple facial and head wounds. Mr. Gaulden is currently in ICU in stable condition.

Based on the totality of the circumstances in this investigation, the decision was made to refer this case to the Grand Jury for the determination of any possible criminal charges.
