The Woodlands Township's Plant for Pollinators Village Challenge Results

THE WOODLANDS, TX - The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department is excited to announce the winners of the 2020 Plant for Pollinators Village Challenge and recipients of scholarship funds provided by Project PolliNation, a local non-profit that supports pollinator conservation.

First place is awarded to Indian Springs Village, second place to Alden Bridge Village and third place to Cochran’s Crossing Village.

More than 130 households participated in the Village Challenge and registered their pollinator gardens from June 1 through December 1, 2020. Together, these gardens provide over 26,000 square feet of pollinator habitat.

By registering, residents share what actions they have taken to protect bees, butterflies, moths and many more pollinators. A registered garden accounts for the basic needs of pollinators, including food, shelter, water and a chemical-free space for pollinators to thrive.

The Plant for Pollinators Village Challenge raises awareness about the importance of pollinators and simple actions residents can take to help, including reducing pesticides and planting native plants. Many pollinators, including monarch butterflies, have seen a significant decline in the last few decades due to overuse of pesticides and loss of habitat.

The Plant for Pollinators Village Challenge will take place again in 2021, beginning June 1, 2021. However, there’s no need to wait for the challenge; make a difference today.
