Second accident damages 3 police units

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On December 19 at approximately 1:36 am, officers with the Shenandoah Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on the Interstate 45 northbound main lanes near Tamina. After receiving numerous additioanal calls, the accident was determined to be on the IH45 northbound main lanes near the Woodlands Parkway flyover in the City of Oak Ridge North. Two Shenandoah Police units responded to the crash scene in order to provide traffic control.

At approximately 2:05am, a white Infiniti SUV disregarded the numerous emergency vehicles, utilizing emergency equipment to block traffic, striking three police vehicles. The three vehicles - one Shenandoah police vehicle and two Oak Ridge North police vehicles - were unoccupied at the time. Officers and fire department personnel, who were standing within feet of the vehicles, were able to flee the area as soon as the initial impact was heard, resulting in no injuries to any emergency personnel.

The driver of the Infiniti was transported by ambulance to a local hospital due to injuries sustained in the wreck. Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) – Highway Patrol was called to the scene to work both accidents and will be the primary agency investigating the incident.

While multiple agencies were on scene, working both the initial crash scene and the secondary crash, several DWI investigations were initiated. The scene was cleared and the freeway was fully re-opened at 4:00 am.
