HOUSTON, TX – Winter storm Uri left many Houstonian’s homes damaged due to broken pipes and water damage. To help Lone Star College students and employees in their recovery efforts, a LSC Weather Emergency Assistance fund has been set up to aid those impacted.

“I know so many of our students and employees suffered unforeseen damage due to the weather,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “That is why Lone Star College has set aside auxiliary funds for emergency grants.”

To qualify for assistance, students must be enrolled at least halftime in credit courses or enrolled in a workforce certificate program and affirm they incurred weather related expenses.

LSC employees must also establish they had extra expenses directly related to the cold weather to qualify.

LSC students and employees should check their school email to learn more on how to file a claim and to see if they qualify for assistance.

“All requests will be approved and verified by college presidents and vice chancellors,” said Head. “We will offer grants of up to $250 depending on the total number of applicants.”

Applications will be accepted through Friday, Feb. 26, at 5 p.m.
