THE WOODLANDS, TX - The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced qualifying sites for the 41st U.S. Senior Open Championship, to be conducted at Omaha (Neb.) Country Club, July 8-11. Omaha Country Club is hosting its second U.S. Senior Open.

Conducted over 18 holes, qualifying will be held at 34 sites across the United States between May 17 and June 14. Online entry applications are available now and continue through Wednesday, May 12, at 5 p.m. EDT (usga.org/champs/apply). In 2020, the U.S. Senior Open was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We appreciate the many Allied Golf Associations throughout the U.S. that provide the opportunity for thousands to compete in U.S. Senior Open qualifying for the chance to advance to the 156-player championship field,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA senior managing director, Championships. “Omaha Country Club and the region enthusiastically supported the 2013 U.S. Senior Open and all is coming together for another exciting championship this summer as the world’s finest senior players compete for the Francis D. Ouimet Memorial Trophy.”

Qualifying for the U.S. Senior Open will be held on The Omni Homestead Resort’s Cascades Course, in Hot Springs, Va., for the 17th time in the last 20 years. The club is the site of eight USGA championships, including the 1967 U.S. Women’s Open and 1988 U.S. Amateur. Sam Snead, a four-time U.S. Open runner-up, was The Homestead’s golf professional for nearly six decades.

Prairie Dunes Country Club, in Hutchinson, Kan., is a qualifying site for the first time. Allen Doyle won his second consecutive U.S. Senior Open in 2006 at Prairie Dunes, a course that has also hosted eight USGA championships. Juli Inkster captured two USGA titles at the club: the 1980 U.S. Women’s Amateur and 2002 U.S. Women’s Open.

Wai’alae Country Club, in Honolulu, Hawaii, which has played host to a PGA Tour event since 1965, is hosting a qualifier for the 14th time. Wynlakes Golf and Country Club, in Montgomery, Ala., and Worthington Hills Country Club, in Columbus, Ohio, will each host Senior Open qualifying for the seventh time.

Qualifying will be contested at Corral de Tierra (Calif.) Country Club and Goose Creek Golf Club, in Jurupa Valley, Calif., for the sixth and fifth times, respectively. Indiana (Pa.) Country Club is joined by Argyle Country Club, in Silver Spring, Md., Turlock (Calif.) Golf and Country Club and The Woodlands (Texas) Country Club (Gary Player Course) as qualifying sites for a fourth time.

Happy Hollow Club, located 10 miles south of Omaha Country Club, will host a U.S. Senior Open qualifier on June 7. Happy Hollow has been the site of 16 Nebraska State Amateurs, including Johnny Goodman’s third consecutive victory in 1931. Goodman, an Omaha native, was the last amateur to win the U.S. Open Championship, in 1933. He also claimed the 1937 U.S. Amateur and was a member of three USA Walker Cup Teams.

San Diego Country Club, in Chula Vista, Calif., will host on June 14, the final day of U.S. Senior Open qualifying. Three USGA championships have been held at San Diego C.C., including the 1964 U.S. Women’s Open, won by five-time USGA champion and club member Mickey Wright, and two U.S. Women’s Amateurs (1993, won by Jill McGill; 2017, won by Sophia Schubert). The club, which is also where 1983 U.S. Senior Open champion Billy Casper learned the game, is hosting its fourth Senior Open qualifier.

California has the most qualifying sites with five. Three U.S. Senior Open qualifiers are scheduled in Florida, while Texas will host two qualifiers. There are qualifying sites in 27 states.

Don Pooley (2002) is the lone player to win the U.S. Senior Open after advancing through qualifying. In 2019, 10 golfers who played in a qualifier made the 36-hole cut in the Senior Open at the Warren Course at Notre Dame, in South Bend, Ind.

The 2021 U.S. Senior Open will be the fourth USGA championship contested in Nebraska. To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.4 or be a professional, and be 50 years of age at the start of championship play.

The U.S. Senior Open was previously hosted by Omaha Country Club in 2013. Kenny Perry won the first of his two Senior Open titles by carding a 7-under-par 63 in the final round. Perry’s 72-hole score of 13-under 267 was five strokes ahead of runner-up Fred Funk.
