MCTX Sheriff Makes Arrest for Robbery/Homicide in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, TX -- During the course of the investigation of this fatal shooting during a robbery, detectives with the Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit identified the suspect who fired the fatal shot as 18 year old James Barnes Jr. Barnes was initially located close to the scene the night of the shooting and has been in the Montgomery County Jail since that time on an unrelated charge. On March 05, 2021, Detectives filed a charge of Capital Murder.

Barnes is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail with no bond. The investigation is ongoing and detectives anticipate there may be additional charges filed against Barnes and possibly one other suspect.


Original Release:
On December 6, 2020, at about 1:00 AM, Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 9000 block of Carraway Lane, Magnolia, TX in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, it was learned a male and his common-law wife were working in a portable storage building directly behind a food trailer. Two black male suspects entered the storage building pointing pistols at the male and his wife, demanding money and their cell phones. One of the suspects discharged a firearm, striking the male, at which time both suspects fled the scene. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased male was identified as Miguel Angel Flores Delarosa H/M 037. Montgomery County Homicide and Violent Crimes Detectives and Montgomery County Crime Scene Investigators were called to the scene for further investigation.
