THE WOODLANDS, TX -- So, you'd like to get to know the young student athletes in our community? You're in luck with our first installment of The WOL Student Athlete of the Week! We will be writing about at least one student athlete per week moving forward.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please meet The Woodlands High School Lacrosse player, senior defenseman, the articulate Ethan Triem.

1) How long have you been playing lacrosse and why did it win out over other sports?

It’s my eighth year of playing lacrosse. I started in the 5th grade with the Young Highlanders program. I was on swim teams for many years and played football up until the 9th grade. Close friends were constantly talking about lacrosse, and I personally enjoy competitive team sports.

2) Describe the TWHS D-1 lacrosse team.

Our team is relatively young, but I believe we have the right mix of leadership, experience and skills to be competitive if we stay focused and play as a team. If the team can get in a groove and stay healthy throughout the season, we might surprise some other teams along the way. Coach T, whom I believe is one of the top coaches in Texas, strives to get everyone to play intelligently, fast and consistent. He is constantly pushing us to be better than we think we can be. Since I'm a defensive player, Coach JT has done extremely well as he has instilled high expectations into the defensive unit along with some fire and intensity to be successful.

3) Do you enjoy going to TWHS?

I like TWHS a lot and think it's a good fit for me. The competitiveness of academics is nice because it helps to drive me to pursue better grades. The only thing I dislike really is the long walk to each class.

4) Have you selected a college yet?

I'm undecided between several universities and am currently working through the process of finding the best fit. Although I do not truly know what I want to do in life, I’m currently considering Computer Science and the variety of options it has to offer. But I don’t have my mind set on anything yet.

5) What do you hope to be doing after you graduate from college?

Working and living/traveling where there are lots of outdoor activities. I have a love of being in the mountains and beaches.

6) What do you do outside of lacrosse?

Hanging with friends and chilling. I enjoy going fishing to relax whenever I'm not playing.

7) Do you have a lacrosse role model?

I don't necessarily have a specific lacrosse role model per se but will watch several players like Chris Fake regarding how they play the game. Several great players have come through the TWHS program, and I’ve tried to learn tidbits from a few along the way to emulate them into my game.

8)How supportive is your family in everything you do in your life?

My family is very supportive of everything I do as they have my best interests at heart. My extended family lives nearby which is nice. They’re often at our games cheering on the team.

9) If you were given a million dollars and had to donate it to one charity, which one would receive it??

I would probably donate the money to the American Diabetes Association because my grandfather has juvenile diabetes, and I have seen how it affects him. So, I would like to try and make it easier for other people living with it.

10) Name three Things people may not know about you.

• I started as a short stick middie

• I enjoy traveling, and lacrosse helps let me go to new places

• I like chess a lot

11) When is the last time you danced? You any good?

The last time I had to dance was in my junior year. It’s a tradition for new D1 players to dance in front of the team even though I did it my sophomore year, too. I do not excel at dancing especially when people are watching.

12) Favorite song in your phone?

I've been listening to “Too Much Time on my Hands” a lot lately and just Styx in general. I don’t really have a favorite band.

13) My Favorite movie?

The Void. I don't think I would recommend the movie though.

14) If you were sentenced to death and were granted one date with the woman of your choice, who'd be the lucky woman'?

I don't plan to ever have a death sentence on my head, but if that were so, maybe I'd need to get to know Judge Judy to see if she could help a guy out.

We now know all there is to know about Ethan Triem to include he likes much older women and can be found at his home playing chess on Saturday evenings.

See you next week for our second installment of The WOL Student Athlete of the Week.
