The Woodlands Lady Highlanders Defeat Episcopal Lady Knights; Improve Record to 3-1

THE WOODLANDS, TX - Mia Kouletsis and The Woodlands Lady Highlanders took down the Episcopal Lady Knights, 16-6 in Bellaire to improve their record to 3-1 in South District play on Tuesday night.

Kouletsis came up big once again for The Woodlands with four goals and two assists as she continues to tear up Texas lacrosse since her arrival from the Big Apple in September.

Rayne Dobson continues to impress with her all-around numbers to the tune of three goals, two assists, one draw control, one interception and a caused turnover.

The unsung hero of the game was hands down, EG Traweek. Albeit, you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the game's stat sheet. Traweek does it all for The Woodlands. What you do not see in the stat column is her hustle in getting back in the defensive zone to thwart off fast breaks. She draws, can play offense or defense and is a virtual vacuum cleaner racing after every ground ball. She is all over the place and has become an absolute pain in the opposition's backside. If she wore a Fit-Bit she'd be at 40,000 steps at games end. You want a blue-collar lacrosse player, I give you EG Traweek.

The Woodlands came out guns-a-blazing and jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead on the strength of owning every ground ball in the first ten minutes of play. The Lady Highlander's passes were crisp as they methodically matriculated the ball up-field only to arrive in ill humor on Episcopal Goalie, sophomore Margaret Krieg's doorstep rendering her defenseless in picking her apart shot after shot.

Not to be outdone, Krieg, a Canisius commit made five saves in a row which appeared to motivate her teammates as the Lady Knights scored three unanswered goals to close out the half.

After a 'spirited' halftime discussion with Coach Amy Markwort, the Lady Highlanders found their early first half mojo in scoring three goals inside of the first two minutes of the second half and the party was over for Episcopal.

Jesse Cole, ever the stalwart in goal came up big once again with 13 saves on 19 shots for a 68% save percentage. She must moonlight as a carpenter because she was a sheet of plywood in between the pipes. Cole shared her thoughts after the game...

'We have the potential to play this way every game. Everyone hustled and got back on defense giving me a ton of support. In seeing my teammates do all they can do in front of me, it makes me up my game that much more. This is how successful teams operate. We'll do our best to maintain this mentality.'

EB Billig contributed a goal, a draw control, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Avery Cox had two goals, an assist, three ground balls, a draw control, an interception and two caused turnovers. Gianna Herrmann contributed two goals, two draw controls, three ground balls and six caused turnovers. Katelyn Hua had two ground balls and four caused turnovers. Lola Killidjian had an interception. Meredith Hunter had a ground ball and a caused turnover. Mackenzie Kulick had two ground balls. Aly Petty had a ground ball and a caused turnover. Grace Renaud had three ground balls. Traweek had a goal, an assist, four caused turnovers and was wreaking havoc on every draw. Devon Suess had two goals, eight draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Coach Amy Markwort was encouraged following the game...

'This was a team win...top to bottom and it started with our seniors. EG Traweek dominated the draw. Devon Suess was our keystone in transition and we had goals and assists from 10 different players.'

Meredith Hunter and The Woodlands JV completed the sweep in downing the hosts, 17-1. Hunter had seven goals. Marin Nordenstam had three goals and two assists. Avery Cox, Adrienne Drickamer and Lea Niznik each lit the lamp twice. Syd Spartz contributed an interception and a caused turnover. Back on the lily pad, Wenny Stein made three stops on four shots for a 75% save percentage. Stein improves her game every time she steps out on the field.

The Varsity and JV are home against Kinkaid Thursday at 5:45 and 7:15 respectively at Gosling Field.
