THE WOODLANDS, TX --As part of the Rayford Road widening project from Waterbend Cove to Birnham Woods Drive, access to Spring Trails Park Drive from Rayford Road will be closed starting Friday, March 12, as crews work on that intersection. Through traffic along Rayford Road will remain open in both directions.

The intersection is scheduled to reopen before Monday, March 22, weather permitting, so the closure will coincide with Conroe ISD Spring Break and not affect school traffic.
Contractor D&W will tie in the existing roads with the new eastbound lanes of Rayford Road at this intersection.

Residents who live off of Spring Trails Park Drive near Rayford Road can use the Harmony Springs neighborhood in the interim to access Rayford Road or take Spring Trails Bend to Tara Springs Lane or Spring Trails Ridge.

Residents living in communities off of or near Spring Trails Bend should use Tara Springs Lane/Discovery Creek Boulevard or Spring Trails Ridge to enter and exit the community.

Motorists coming from the Grand Parkway will not be able access Rayford Road via the Spring Trails Ridge/Spring Trails Bend/Spring Trails Park Drive cut-through or the Discovery Creek/Tara Springs/Spring Trails Bend/Spring Trails Park Drive cut-through. They should take Rayford Road from the Grand Parkway.

The Rayford Road-Birnham Woods Drive road widening, intersection improvement and signalization project started in October 2020.

Scope of project: The project will widen Rayford Road to four lanes from approximately 40 feet east of Waterbend Cove to approximately 400 feet east of Birnham Woods Drive. A new concrete roadway will be constructed on the south side of the existing Rayford Road lanes to create the two new eastbound lanes. The existing road will be for the two westbound lanes along that stretch. Dedicated left-turn lanes along Rayford Road turning into communities also are included in the project.

There also will be an additional bridge constructed for eastbound Rayford Road traffic just east of Spring Trails Park Drive. That bridge construction is underway.

The project involves constructing a traffic signal at the Rayford Road-Birnham Woods intersection and widening Birnham Woods Drive to four lanes from approximately 600 feet north of Rayford Road to approximately 600 feet south of Rayford Road. All four Rayford Road-Birnham Woods Drive intersection approaches will have a dedicated left-turn lane.
It is a 360-calendar day contract to complete the project.
