SPRING, TX -- Harris County Emergency Services District No. 11 (ESD 11) will deploy six new ambulances to the community on August 20th ahead of their official launch date on September 1st.

The district has accelerated ambulance deployment in response to a request for assistance from the district’s current contractor, Cypress Creek Emergency Medical Services (CCEMS).

The COVID-19 pandemic has created staffing issues for the entire medical system, and has caused excessive wait times at hospitals. These excessive wait times have reduced the number of area ambulances available for emergency calls.

CCEMS is contractually obligated to provide ambulance service to ESD 11 until 7:00 AM on September 1, 2021, but has been unable to maintain the necessary number of ambulances to adequately serve the district’s emergency call volume.

The six ESD 11 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances will enter service early on August 20th to respond to 911 calls, and will be staffed with experienced mobile healthcare professionals. The early launch will mark the start of operations for ESD 11 Mobile Healthcare, ESD 11’s new in-house ambulance service.

ESD 11 will fully deploy the remainder of its fleet on September 1st at 7:00 AM. ESD 11 Mobile Healthcare will operate up to 28 state-of-the-art ambulances, which is nine more than CCEMS operated historically. The additional ambulances, combined with strategic placement, will allow for greater coverage and faster response times.

“I am extremely proud of all of our staff for working around the clock to get these ambulances ready early and onto the streets of ESD 11”, said Doug Hooten, Chief Executive Officer of ESD 11 Mobile Healthcare. “We stand ready to provide 21st century mobile healthcare to the citizens of the district.”
