WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Kevin Brady (TX-08) released the following statement on the attacks in Kabul:

“The attacks in Kabul today are horrific, infuriating, and preventable. It did not have to be this way. My prayers go out to the loved ones of the brave U.S. service members who lost their lives protecting Americans and our allies. We as a nation owe these service members and all those who have paid the ultimate price our deepest gratitude.

'President Biden is squarely to blame for one of the saddest days in U.S. history. Surrendering to the Taliban's arbitrary withdrawal timeline instead of standing tall to ensure Americans' safety is unacceptable and dismisses the sacrifices of U.S. military men and women and our allied forces who sacrificed so much for 20 years. One of the tenets of the U.S. military is to leave no person behind, yet our commander-in-chief is abandoning thousands of Americans behind enemy lines. President Biden must not quit until we bring every single American home.

'Speaker Pelosi has an obligation to bring Congress back to get answers and to pass Congressman Gallagher’s bill to ensure we do not withdraw until every American is brought home safely.

'Cathy and I will continue to pray for the safety of our U.S. troops, allies, and all Americans stranded in Afghanistan. My office is monitoring this rapidly-developing situation, and we stand ready to assist in any way possible.”
