THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held a public Special Board Meeting on December 29, 2021 to discuss future leadership plans for the organization.

Ms. Monique Sharp was promoted to Chief Financial Officer and to Interim President and General Manager. Ms. Sharp joined The Woodlands team 29 years ago and her experience with the organization will be invaluable in her new roles.

Under her leadership, The Woodlands Township recently earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), placing it in the Top 2% in the country.

“As the governmental agency serving all of The Woodlands Township residents and businesses, we must provide transparent, timely and accurate financial information to the public,” said Chairman Gordy Bunch. “I am proud to say that The Township has achieved the highest bond rating of AA+ this year, placing the Township in the top 4% of governmental agencies in the State of Texas. No other special purpose district has achieved a higher rating. We salute Monique and the financial staff of the Township for their excellent work.”

Ms. Sharp will begin serving in her new roles on January 3, 2022, which will be Mr. Jeff Jones last date of employment with the Township. This follows the announcement of Ms. Karen Dempsey, with 25 years of experience, and Dr. Chris Nunes, with 15 years of experience, as interim Assistant General Managers at a Board meeting in mid-December.

A statement from Mr. Jones is below.

“When I assumed the role of president and general manager of The Woodlands Township in 2020, The Township was undertaking or considering several projects for which I had experience and a background to contribute with my skillset. Those projects have concluded and after much deliberation with my family, it makes sense for me to focus on leveraging my three-decades of successful city management experience in a community with a traditional municipal form of government. The new year presents a window of opportunity for both the Board and I to move in a new direction. I've enjoyed my time serving The Woodlands community and know that a bright future lies ahead. I want to thank Chairman Bunch and the Board of Directors for the opportunity to serve The Woodlands at such an historic time. I also want to thank the Township staff and community for all their support.”
