NEW CANEY, TX -- Runners will explore the trails of Lake Houston Wilderness Park at the Piney Woods TrailFest, a trail run offering multiple distances to runners and walkers.

The Piney Woods TrailFest on Jan. 29 lets runners choose their distance, with options including a 5k, 10 Mile, 20 Mile and 50k. The flat, scenic trails of Lake Houston Wilderness Park, located in New Caney just north of Houston, are ideal for beginning trail runners, seasoned veterans and walkers.

'This is a great opportunity to get off the road and try some of the Houston area’s best trail running,” said race director Bill Gardner.

Each chip-timed distance follows established park trails through shady pine forest. The course profile is relatively flat, with mostly single track trail. Participants will have support from aid stations along the course.

Every runner will receive a performance fabric T-shirt, a finisher medal and a food truck meal with their entry.

Top finishers in each distance will compete for overall male and female awards and age group awards in the following categories: 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and up.

Camping is available at the park.
