Bob Medina has been named the new Director of Fine Arts for Magnolia ISD

MAGNOLIA, TX -- Robert “Bob” Medina has been named the Director of Fine Arts for Magnolia ISD. Currently, Dr. Foy Campbell is a multi-director, serving as the Director of Fine Arts and Career and Technical Education (CTE). The position is being divided to allow each director to focus on their programs.


Mr. Medina has 30 years of band directing experience and 35 years of professional touring experience. Mr. Medina founded and performed with The Elision Saxophone Quartet for 26 years, twelve years as a member of the Texas Commission on Arts Touring Arts roster, in addition to performing with a variety of jazz ensembles, combos, blues bands, and orchestra appearances. He has been with Magnolia High School (MHS) as director of bands since 2017 and is the TMEA Region 9 jazz coordinator. Over the past five seasons, Mr. Medina has successfully grown the band program at MHS, including 12 students placed in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State band and a student in the TMEA All-State Jazz Band in 2022, a first for MISD.


At MHS, he has vertically aligned the entire band program and staff grades 6 - 12. His ensembles have consistently received UIL Sweepstakes, including a first-place finish by the MHS Wind Symphony, at the regional round of the TMEA 5A Honor Band contest in 2019. Mr. Medina established a jazz education program at MHS and Bear Branch Junior High that has garnered local, area, state, and national recognition. Mr. Medina was named MHS Teacher of the Year in 2019.


Mr. Medina will provide leadership in developing vertical alignment across the district for the fine arts; including Choir, Band, Theatre, and Visual Arts.

Mr. Medina is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with degrees in education, pre-k through 12 certification, and performance. He and his wife, Amy, an educator, reside in Magnolia. They are proud parents of three children; Nico, a professional musician based in Nashville; Eli, a laser optics technician in the department of physics at the University of Texas; and Ashlyn, a graduate of the University of North Texas and current gallery manager at the Woodlands Art Gallery & Studios.
