THE WOODLANDS, TX – Wine & Food Week, the annual Woodlands area event presented by Food & Vine Time Productions, kicked off Monday evening with a special wine-pairing event and social gathering at The Butler House. Certified wine stewards were on hand to allow guests to sample different wines to maximize the taste sensation of the upscale hors d’oeuvres placed about the covered outdoors venue.

Annual event is a palate-cleanser for the body and soul

Woodlands Online was on hand to talk with Constance McDerby, founder of Food & Vine Time Productions and co-producer of the event.

“We’re here to thank all of our partners for their support in making this event happen,” said McDerby. “After some of the things that have happened in the world over the past couple of years, we’re back to full force this year. We’re prepared for our former glory; just come on to our events this week and we’ll have it all waiting for you.”

McDerby described the whimsical conception of Wine & Food Week. “It’s like this crazy idea I had in my mind that – in the fourth largest city in America in the 2000s – there wasn’t a multi-day, multifaceted culinary and wine event,” she said. “So, not knowing that I didn’t know what I was doing, we decided to start it. Fast forward eighteen years to Wine & Food Week, and it’s the largest culinary food and wine event between New Orleans and Aspen.”

Food & Vine Productions has evolved far beyond one woman’s initial thoughts on bringing a class act to the masses; the organization has assisted in raising more than $2 billion for multiple nonprofit organizations across all the events that it produces.

When asked what her favorite event was, McDerby demurred. “It’s like being asked to choose your favorite child. But I absolutely love the Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting and Chef Showcase because it brings people from all over the world. This year the head of the American Chefs Federation is coming in to be our judge. So it brings in that caliber of people and amazing restaurants that bring their best. One thing I’m also really excited about is a new event this year called The Rosé Way - A Sweet Soiree. Though it’s catered to women, men are invited as long as they wear a pink shirt,” she laughed. “They get to step into a special social experience with fashions and foods and wines all in the same color palette. There’s just something special about dressing up and enjoying nice things.”
