HOUSTON, TX -- On October 21st, guests gathered at a casino-themed event to “Change the Odds” for kids in the foster care system. Operation: Achieve Independence’s (OAI) donors helped to raise over $50,000 in support of the organization’s newest programs! These new programs include Life Skills Training and Education and Career Prep for youth who are near aging out of foster care. Tina James, OAI’s Founder and Board President said, “I am humbled by the incredible volunteers and donors who have chosen Operation: Achieve Independence as a charity of choice. I have loved watching the organization grow from just a thought to what it is today: a tool for all kids in foster care to use.” She goes on to say “I want to thank every person who has volunteered their time and talent, or opened their wallets to give to our mission. We cannot do any of this without you.”

OAI’s mission is to provide youth in the foster care system with all the tools necessary to be successful when they age out of care. Thanks to the generous donations given at this event, OAI will be able to expand its programs to reach more kids in Greater Houston area high schools, providing them with essential life skills training and advise them on their next best career and education steps.

OAI needs volunteers! Whether you would like to be a mentor to a child in foster care, teach a basic life skills class, advise on career and education or help with administrative needs, the organization needs you! If you are interested in getting involved with OAI, or have questions about the programs, please contact Nicole Davis, Program Director at nicole@oaicares.org.
