MCSO Responds to Reported Active Shooter- No Fatalities- Suspect in Custody

MONTGOMERY, TX -- Today, May 23, 2026, at approximately 4:20 p.m. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an active shooter in the Kings Colony neighborhood near Nottingham Drive.

Multiple 911 calls were received indicating that an individual was actively firing a weapon, with initial reports suggesting the possibility of multiple victims. Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with numerous assisting law enforcement agencies from across the area, responded immediately to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies reported hearing continued gunfire. The suspect then barricaded himself inside a residence. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was deployed, and the suspect subsequently surrendered without incident.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the response.

Initial reports of multiple victims were later determined to be inaccurate. One individual, a 17-year-old male, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, treated, and has since been released. The suspect also sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, he remains in MCSO custody.

This remains an active investigation. Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, along with Crime Scene Investigators, are currently processing the scene and working to determine the sequence of events.

The suspect and another individual are being interviewed, and charges will be determined once all facts have been established. Detectives are also continuing to interview multiple witnesses who were in the area during the incident, where shots were reported to have been fired in multiple directions.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the numerous assisting law enforcement agencies for their rapid response and coordinated efforts. Their professionalism and teamwork were instrumental in bringing this incident to a safe resolution with no fatalities.
