Sizing Graphics for Woodlands Online Listings

Most graphics will appear in this area.

A graphic completes & generates interest in a listing – whether it’s for an Event, the Marketplace, a Classified Ad, or the Business Directory, the graphic headlines the listing, appearing top center. Keeping the graphic small, therefore, is essential. Resized .jpg or .gif files don’t overload our servers; they also speed your listings page load time (no one enjoys waiting for a huge picture to load).

Resizing a Graphic Using Paint - a graphics program on most Windows-based computers:

Click the Start button at bottom left of the desktop.
Choose Programs, Accessories and then Paint.
From the File menu, select Open.
First, choose the file type you plan to use (either a .jpg or a .gif) with the bottom arrow of the Open Dialogue Box.
Next, Browse to select the file to be resized. Either click once on the file and then the Open button, or double click the file.
From the Image menu, choose Attributes, then the unit of measurement you prefer, inches or pixels.
Note the width and height of your graphic, then click Cancel.
From the Image menu, choose Stretch/Skew.
Enter the same number by which to reduce the graphic in both the horizontal and vertical % boxes under Stretch. Use as a guide the width and height of the sample graphics on this page. For example, if your pixel width is 400 on a horizontal format graphic, enter 50% in both areas to make the graphic 200 pixels in width.
From the Image menu, choose Attributes to verify that your graphic is close to that of our sample sizes. Notice the file “size on disk.” For either horizontal or vertical formats, please try to keep your graphic around 10,000 bytes (or 10K).
From the Edit menu, choose Undo, if needed, to get your graphic closer to the correct size.
From the File menu, choose Save or Save As. Please be certain to not have any spaces in your file name. For example, save a file as companylogo.gif.
