The Woodlands, TX -- B&A Development Group, L.P., has begun construction on The Plaza at Indian Springs, a unique complex that will serve not only the community as a medical facility, but will also dine and entertain residents with three world-class restaurants and a large music pavilion.

"This building concept is like no other in the Houston area," said Henry Altman, president of B&A Development. "It is a good mix use of everything the community needs while providing an excellent meeting place and venue for entertainment."

The Plaza will include two 24,000 square foot single-story medical professional buildings that will house St. Luke's Minor Emergency Center, The Woodlands Orthodontic Group and other medical professional services that will be secured before completion. Equivalent to an off-campus emergency department, the Minor Emergency Center will provide services including full-service emergency help, laboratory services and full diagnostic imaging capabilities. St. Luke's presence in The Plaza will help meet the needs of a growing Woodlands community and relieve local hospital emergency department capacity problems.

The Plaza's three restaurants, music pavilion, fountain and beautiful backlit water wall will set a scenic stage for concerts and festivals. The Plaza will play host to such events as The 2007 Woodlands Jazz Festival and a variety of other concerts, as well as provide a great venue for weddings and parties.

The Plaza fountain, developed by Fluidity Design Consultants, will occupy 17,000 square feet of the 30,000 square foot plaza. The riveting rear-lighted glass water wall will flow into the fountain which will be programmed with music and a stunning light show. Fluidity's designers' resumes include the fountain at The Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Hearst Headquarters Building in New York City.

The three restaurants will occupy the front of the complex, and include Chez Thai, Enrique's Latin Grill and Rao's Northern Italian Restaurant. They will serve a variety of delicious dishes, including Thai/French fusion entrees, delectable French pastries and breads, authentic contemporary Mexican food and Tony Rao's famous Italian cuisine.

"The restaurants will be owned and operated by the B&A hospitality division," said Altman. "Tony Rao, managing partner and one of the best chefs in Houston, will oversee the management of the food, beverages, planning of the restaurants and catering operations."

One of the unique qualities of The Plaza, will be its modern architectural design. Architectural icon Didi Pei of the world-renowned Pei Partnership Architects has designed an energy efficient building to compliment The Woodlands' preservation efforts. Pei has overseen the design management of some of the most recognized buildings in the world including the 70 foot tall glass pyramid at The Grand Louvre in Paris, designed by his father, I.M. Pei. Didi Pei served as chief designer for the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and the Guggenheim Pavilion at The Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York. Pei now adds The Plaza to his long list of architectural marvels.

Along with its modern design, The Plaza will also achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification, also know as a Green Building, using the latest environmental and energy efficient technology. Helping to attain this certification is Turner Construction who is recognized as a pioneer of LEED certified building construction.
