THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Woody Woodrow, wildlife biologist with the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service, appears in From Crakes to Cranes—Waterbirds of Our Area on Thursday, November 12, at 7:30 p.m. at McCullough Jr. High School.

A forested habitat with numerous waterways, South Montgomery County provides an attractive environment for many species of waterbirds. According to Mr. Woodrow, waders such as egrets, herons, kingfishers, ducks, loons, white pelicans and wandering wood storks nest and forage in the region.

“People have a close affinity for waterbirds because we share that love of habitat,” explains Mr. Woodrow.

Through beautiful photography Mr. Woodrow reveals waterbirds, from reclusive kingfishers to “native species that have gone urban.” Enjoy a close-up view of the smallest of the waterbirds, crakes, to the largest of the group, cranes. Learn about their habits and habitat.

The evening is the final program in the fall series for Walk in the Woods Nature Lectures. A free program of Community Associations of The Woodlands, the series is sponsored by The Pineywoods Nursery, Waste Management, The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. and Hilton Garden Inn.
