Market Street Hosts Annual Tree Lighting
Market Street kicked off their holiday festivities with their Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony which took place on Thursday, November 19th at Central Park.
The festive event entertained young and old with live music by The Rhett Butler Band, holiday carriage rides, and juggling elves. There were also plenty of free gifts for the kids, and appetizer samplers offered by area businesses, and if that was not enough to get you in the holiday spirit, it even snowed.
The tree lighting took place at 7:00 pm and was proudly lit by this year’s official Tree Lighters; Seven-year-old twins Jacquelyn and Jillian Johnson. The twins, who both cope with Juvenile Diabetes, were nominated by long time family friend Carrie Reeves. Reeves submitted a photo montage of the twins along with a letter describing their plight as Juvenile Diabetes patients. “The photo montage as well as Carrie’s heartfelt words won us over,” said Jenny Taylor, Marketing Manager for Market Street. We’re proud to host these two brave and inspirational children as our official Tree Lighters.” Smiles lit the faces of the young girls as they began the countdown and together lit the 74 foot tall tree. "Last night was so amazing and our family is so grateful for that opportunity," said Kellie Johnson, mother of the twins. "The girls were so excited when I told them they were going to be the tree lighters. They understood why they were chosen and what they were to do, but when they saw ALL those people on the lawn, they started getting even more excited." Kellie said the girls were still talking about it this morning. "The first words out of Jacquelyn's mouth were 'I will never forget last night as long as I live.' I don't think any of us will." If you were unable to attend this year’s tree lighting, there are still many more holiday events ahead. You can find all of the areas holiday fun at our Christmas in The Woodlands Page.
