The Woodlands boys’ cross country team and Lady Highlander Sarah Andrews continue to dominate the high school cross country landscape. Andrews won the Nike South Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Bear Branch while the Highlanders placed second in the boys’ team standings.

Andrews raced to victory in 18 minutes, 14.8 seconds. She won by more than 30 seconds over her nearest competitor.

The Woodlands boys finished with a score of 81, placing second behind 4A state champions Boerne (61). Tyler Bradley (16:41.6), Phil Schneider (16:42.3), Tom Sanderson (16:42.3) and Nathan Carbajal (16:46.7) ran 12 th, 13 th, 14 th and 16 th in order. Andrew Scheffey (17:03.1), Ross Moulder (17:05.3) and Joaquin Ortegon (17:10.8) finished 26-28 respectively.

Andrews and The Woodlands boys’ team advance to the Nike Nationals, Dec. 5, in Portland, Ore.

The College Park girls’ team still could qualify as an at-large with a fourth-place team finish. Bree Schrader led the charge, finishing fourth in 19:54. Mckenze Neal ran 18 th in 20:28.9 while Claire Andrews (20:53.2) and Katie Jensen (20:58.6) placed 29 th and 31 st respectively.

Emily Jensen (21:15.9) completed the top five for College Park, finishing 35 th in the field of 92. Celeste Neff (21:32.6) and Hale Vanklompenburg (21:59.1) rounded out the field for the Lady Cavaliers.

Basketball season in full swing

The College Park girls’ basketball team won the consolation trophy at the McDonald’s Texas Invitational in Pasadena on Saturday. Megan Shafer earned all-tournament recognition.

The Lady Cavaliers defeated Tomball 64-57 in overtime in the consolation finals. Shafer scored 21 points while Lexxus Ward (nine assists) and Alexia Sanders added 14 and 13 points respectively. Rachel Bowie contributed eight points and Danielle Munoz finished with seven steals and five rebounds.

Shafer scored 15 points and Bowie 10 more in a 54-43 victory over Cy-Falls in the consolation semifinals. Sanders scored nine points while Munoz and Katie Mitchell had six points each. Ward finished with five points and Sonja Sorbye three points.

The Lady Cavaliers opened tournament play with a 60-47 loss to Cinco Ranch before rebounding with a 49-35 victory over Clear Lake en route through the consolation bracket.

Mansfield Summit won the 32-team tournament, defeating Cy-Fair 63-56 in the finals.

College Park is on the road this week, playing at Cy-Falls on Monday and at Kingwood on Tuesday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The College Park boys’ basketball team dropped an 85-71 decision to Fort Bend Bush in the consolation finals of the McDonald’s Texas Invitational to even its mark at 3-3 for the season. Adam Rowe scored 17 points while Evan Cooper added 15 and James Allen 10 points.

The Cavaliers turned back both Hightower (64-49) and DeSoto (53-48) in pool play before falling to North Crowley 68-65 in Gold Division I tournament play. College Park bounced back to defeat Marshall 72-68 to advance to the consolation finals.

Bellaire defeated Westlake 50-47 in the championship game of the 48-team tournament.

College Park hosts Kempner on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Woodlands boys’ basketball team is at C.E. King on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game before hosting The Woodlands Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Highlanders visit Klein Collins on Monday before hosting Atascocita on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Oak Ridge War Eagles visit Clear Springs on Tuesday while the Lady War Eagles host Brenham on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
