Rodeo History

The Houston Livestock and Rodeo first took place in 1931 and the first show took place in 1932 in the Democratic Convention Hall. There first entertainer was Gene Autry, and as the years went by and more country western singers became famous so did the rodeo.

The home for the Houston Livestock and Rodeo became the Astrodome in 1966, and known country singers like Elvis Presley and George Strait made the rodeo more and more popular and exciting.

When the rodeo moved into the Reliant Stadium in 2003, attendance boomed when people like Kenny Chesney, Beyonce, and many more preformed there.

The Rodeo continues to grow and provide a place the family can enjoy some Texas history and fun. This year is sure to be as promising as the past years.
