Get tour tickets! Lone Star College-Montgomery’s 2010-11 Theatre Season has show-stopping line-up
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - For the upcoming 2010-11 season, Lone Star College-Montgomery’s theatre department has selected a variety of show-stopping productions worthy of a standing ovation. And for only $35, patrons can purchase season tickets with reserved seating for all six productions.
The line-up includes Too Much Memory, a modern-day Greek classic; Lend Me a Tenor, a non-stop laughing comedy; and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a W-I-T-T-Y performance of adolescents competing in a spelling bee. The theatre season also includes two separate Actors Workshop productions, as well as the 24-Hours Plays performance.
The opening production, Too Much Memory, by Keith Reddin and Meg Gibson, runs in October. It is a retelling of the classic Greek tragedy of Antigone set firmly in the present. This production is a participating entry for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Taking the stage in late April is Lend Me a Tenor. This comedy, by Ken Ludwig, takes place on a night in September 1934 when the world famous tenor, Tito Morelli, is set to perform at the opera gala season opener. Through a hilarious series of mishaps, the farce spins out of control both on- and off-stage.
The season also includes two different Actors Workshop productions. Specialized for the Performing Arts Lab at the college, The Actors Workshop series minimize the peripherals of sets, costumes, and lighting to concentrate on character development. Each production is built to provide audience members with a more personal experience.
The admission price for Actors Workshops performances are "pay what you will," with proceeds supporting the theatre productions and department. The fall workshop performance will be in November, and the spring workshop performance will be in February.
The, in March, Delta Psi Omega, the theatre department’s honor society, presents 24-Hour Plays, in which students write, cast, direct, and perform original short plays all within 24 hours. This collaboration of students results in some amazing performances.
Finally, the last production of the season is The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, based on the book by Rachel Sheinkin with music and lyrics by William Finn. The Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves. Through this witty performance, the cast learns that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. This production will be onstage late June.
Tickets for the entire season (six productions) can be purchased for only $35. Season ticket holders receive name recognition in all theatre programs and reserved seating.
Individual tickets for performances are $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors, and $5 for student, staff, or faculty.
