LSC presents 'New Archeology' exhibit next month
THE WOODLANDS, Texas –– Lone Star College-Montgomery's art department presents an exhibition titled “New Archeology,” by ceramics artist Jeff Forster, on display Monday, Feb. 13, through Friday, March 2, in the Mary Matteson-Parrish Art Gallery, located in the Performing Arts Center (Building D).
A free, community-wide opening reception with refreshments will take place at 2 p.m, Monday, Feb. 13 in the same location.
Forster's inspiration is derived from household objects, as the innate relation to these commonplace items is integral to his work. His ceramic pieces strike a contrast between the mass-produced consumer items and the more personal objects that traditional art entails. His 'postmodern relics' create a reflection of society and its various functions.
Jeff Forster received a bachelor’s degree in art education from Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minn., and a master’s of fine arts degree from Southern Illinois University.
He has more than 10 years experience teaching ceramics classes at The Paramount Arts District in Saint Cloud, Minn.; The Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.; Southern Illinois University; and Lone Star College-North Harris.
Currently he is the ceramics chair at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s Glassell School of Art. He is also the president of the Clay Houston Organization and serves on the board of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.
The Mary Matteson-Parrish Art Gallery is a teaching gallery at LSC-Montgomery, and the presentations and artwork provided are free to the community. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
