Baseball: College Park hosts tourney through Saturday

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The College Park High School baseball team is hosting the Wings ‘n More Classic at The Diamonds at College Park. So far, however, two games have produced a couple of close losses.

The Woodlands, Oak Ridge bats on fire


The Cavaliers (6-8) dropped a 6-4 decision to Katy Seven Lakes on Friday. The Cavaliers will complete tournament play on Saturday when they face Bryan at 10 a.m. and Seven Lakes again at 7 p.m.

Jayden Holden had two hits and drove in a run. Robby Henderson and Justen Heinrich added one hit and RBI apiece.

College Park fell 4-2 to Kingwood in the tournament opener on Thursday. Montana Parsons pitched five strong innings, striking out five while allowing just two runs.

Dakota Parsons and David Ellingson drove in a run each.

The Woodlands High School baseball team remains undefeated in 2013 after a 13-2 win over Furr in tournament play Friday at Cy-Lakes. The Highlanders (12-0) finish up there at 7 p.m. Saturday with a game against host Cy-Lakes.

Chris Andritsos struck out all nine batters he faced over three innings and combined with Luke Sherley (five strikeouts) on a two-hitter.

Hillin Warren collected four hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in two runs. Brandon Manger added three hits and four RBIs. Kolbi Brown and Sherley had two hits each and Josh Shaw drove in three runs. Griffin Jones added to the 15-hit attack and drove in a run.

The Oak Ridge High School baseball team brought its bats to tournament play at Pflugerville Connally. The War Eagles (9-5) slugged Austin St. Andrews 10-1 on Friday. Oak Ridge is scheduled to face hosts Pflugerville Connally at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Tyler Shumpert fired a one-hitter, striking out seven, and Alex Walker blasted a pair of homers and drove in three runs. Brandon Navarro drove in two runs and Luken Baker, Brice Foley and Braden Letney drove in a run apiece.

The War Eagles recorded a 14-5 win over Copperas Cove in tournament play on Thursday. Letney collected three hits, including a homer, and drove in five runs while Walker added three hits, one a homer, and four RBIs. Kim Plympton also belted a homer and Riley McKnight added two hits and drove in two runs.
