CONROE, Texas - The Oak Ridge War Eagles scored the first 20 points of the second-half en route to a 74-65 non-district win over Cypress Ridge at home Tuesday night.

“We talked at halftime about getting the lead up, so that some of the guys that don’t hardly get much playing time, get a chance to play. We still have a long way to go, we have to get better at limiting our turnovers and playing on-the-ball defense,” said War Eagle Head Coach Joe Price.

Oak Ridge (10-3) made their first nine shots of the third quarter, going on a 20-0 run, while holding Cy-Ridge scoreless for the first 5:09 of the second-half. The War Eagles run spurred a commanding 60-30 lead with 3:29 left in the third-quarter. Cy-Ridge scored on its next four possessions on a 9-2 run, but the deficit was too much to overcome for the Rams. Oak Ridge outscored the Rams 22-11 in the third period to take a 62-41 lead at the end of the third-quarter.

Oak Ridge had three starters in double-figures, led by Senior point guard Tanner Doyle’s team-high 18 points. Senior guard Trumaine Jefferson scored 14 points and Senior forward Josh Caldwell had 10 points, respectively. Junior Derrick Staten scored a game-high 29 points for Cy-Ridge.

With a big lead, War Eagle head coach Joe Price went to the bench to give his starters some rest, as Oak Ridge was coming off an appearance in the Lee College tournament this past weekend.

Cy-Ridge (3-7) closed the game on a 12-0 run off four consecutive three-point field goals to close the games deficit within single-digits.

Cy-Ridge turned the War Eagles over on four consecutive possessions at the beginning of the second quarter to take a 22-21 lead with 5:40 left. The Rams forced Oak Ridge into 11 turnovers in the second-quarter, however could only manage to score 11 points off those turnovers as the Rams faced a 40-30 deficit at halftime.

The War Eagles used a 9-0 run in the first quarter to take a 9-6 lead with 4:01 left. Both teams used the paint to their advantage, moving the ball inside as Oak Ridge had a 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Oak Ridge will travel to face Goose Creek Memorial in Baytown on Friday, December 13, at 7:00 p.m., before beginning district play next week.
