Oak Ridge girls hold off College Park

OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – Kelsey Scibek led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and the Oak Ridge High School girls’ basketball team claimed a 51-40 District 14-5A victory Friday over the College Park High School girls’ basketball team.

Scibek was the only Lady War Eagles player in double figures but seven more scored for Oak Ridge, which improved to 3-7 in district play and 13-15 overall.

Jamy Smith and Amanda Tyson scored nine and eight points respectively. Both hauled in five rebounds. It was a lucky day of sorts for Macie Chapa, who scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds, and came up with seven steals.

Kameron Boren also scored seven points while Raquel Kellow contributed with six points. Kylie Noboa finished with two points and Emily Hill added one more.

Oak Ridge built a 29-20 led at halftime and maintained that advantage over the final 16 minutes. College Park, 0-10 in district play, clawed to within 45-38 with 5:09 left in the fourth quarter and 47-40 with 2:54 still remaining but could get no closer.

Candace Goady led the Lady Cavaliers with 13 points and five rebounds. Katie Gunther pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with seven points. Meya Hadnot scored seven points and added seven rebounds.

Cami Shafer finished with five points, five rebounds and four steals while both Karley Shafer and Haley Fitzpatrick scored three points. Valerie DiGuilio scored two points.

College Park hosts Conroe at 7 p.m. Friday. Oak Ridge has a bye on Friday and visits Conroe for a 7 p.m. Tuesday game.
