THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Highlander baseball team came into Friday night’s Bi-District Game 2 looking for the sweep and advance to the Area round.
The Woodlands uses 4-run 6th inning to sweep Bi-District series

Klein gets the early lead in the Top of the first inning when Rainer Ausmus grounds into the 6-4 fielders choice, scoring Christian Caudle and the Bearkats lead 1-0.

The Highlanders get the run back in the bottom of the first when Chris Andritsos uncorks one again for his second home run of the series and we’re tied 1-1.

Klein answers back in the top of the third when Tyler Flores hits a two-run home run to give the Bearkats a 3-1 lead. Christian Tripp then gets a single-RBI to right-field and Klein extends the lead to 4-1.

The Highlanders respond in the bottom of the fourth when Casey Schneider hits a two-run home run to straight away center-field and the Highlanders pull to within 4-3. The Highlanders continue to crank out the offense as they load the bases for Mark Doerries. Doerries lines one into right-field for a single and two-RBI’s and the Highlanders take the lead 5-4.

Klein answers right back in the top of the fifth when Christian Tripp hits one up-the-middle as the ball hits the second-base bag and takes an awkward bounce off the bag allowing Klein’s Tyler Flores comes in to score and we’re tied again 5-5. Next batter Nick Slaughter gets a single scoring Rainer Ausmus and the Bearkats take the lead 6-5.

The sixth-inning was big in Game 1 for the Highlanders and it was big once again in Game 2. The Highlanders draw three consecutive walks by Chris Andritsos, Colton Wardle and Mark Doerries to load the bases with no outs. A Wild pitch by Klein gets a runner home and we’re tied 6-6. Max Conway steps in with one out and knocks a single to left-field, here comes Colton Wardle and courtesy runner Lexton Trauffler and the Highlander lead once again 8-6. Evan Samoff then steps in and gets a sacrifice-fly, RBI to left-field and that scores Evan Brain from third and The Woodlands extends its lead to 9-6.

Evan Samoff closes out the game in with a strikeout and thats game, set, series. Highlanders take Game 2, 9-6 over Klein and win the Bi-District series 2-0.

With the win the Highlanders improve to 26-5 overall and will advance to the Area round next week to face the Bowie-McNeil winner.
