College Park teacher receives Teaching Excellence award
THE WOODLANDS, Texas--The Woodlands College Park High School (TWCPHS) teacher, John Owens, was awarded the Teaching Excellence in Financial Literacy Award by The Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT). The award is given to an educator who has tackled the subject of financial education.
IBAT Education Foundation is committed to promoting financial literacy throughout Texas, and they feel teachers play a significant role in how students learn the basics of savings and credit, knowing how to budget and knowing how to make informed choices and decisions.
In order to be considered for the award, individuals must be nominated by a member in good standing of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas. Three individuals statewide are chosen and rewarded with $1,000.
John Owens, Economics teacher, was awarded a resolution along with the check by representatives of IBAT on Monday, May 12, while teaching a class. In addition, Mr. Ray Sanders, Woodforest Bank President presented Mr. Owens with a $500 check from Woodforest Bank.
