MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- May is Military Appreciation Month and the community will be honoring the troops in a number of ways as Memorial Day approaches. The most poignant salute will be at the Forest Park Cemetery on I-45N southbound, north of The Woodlands, Monday, May 26, when the VFW Post 12024 and the Post’s Auxiliary will be commemorating military heroes at 10:00 a.m. Prior to the ceremony, the VFW, with assistance from area Boy and Girl Scout troops, will place American flags on the gravesites in a display of respect.

“This is the 5th Annual Memorial Day ceremony organized by the VFW Post,” said Post Commander James Taylor. “The event will be followed by a cookout on the premises.”

The VFW will also be present for the salute to the military at the Conservatory located at 6203 Alden Bridge Drive, Thursday evening, May 22. Entertainment will be provided by the Billie Ledbetter Band. To RSVP call 281-681-3102. Guests are asked to bring items for care packages for the troops.

Gracepoint Fellowship Baptist Church at 426 Corporate Woods Drive, will also be honoring the military this Sunday. The congregation will bring a framed picture of loved ones who have served, which will be placed on the stage during the church service, in a reverent tribute.

Just south of The Woodlands, the Chick-fil-A at Louetta Crossing will be hosting a ‘Military Appreciation Night’ on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 6-8 p.m. A free Chick-fil-A sandwich meal will be provided for military personnel who have honorably served.

Back by popular demand is the neighborhood lemonade stand to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. For the third year in a row, the Atkins and Proctor families will set up their lemonade stand on Memorial Day, May 26, from noon to 5 p.m., at the intersection of Crownridge and Alden Bridge across from Spring Hill.
