THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Graduating seniors who participated in the Students Together Achieving Results (STAR) Program were recognized at the May Board of Trustees meeting. This was the fifth group of participants to graduate and the Board wanted to honor them for their hard work and persistence.

Four years ago, high school counselors were asked to identify ninth grade students who did not have a successful freshman year and invite them to participate in STAR. The program is designed to build strong relationships between counselors and underachieving students, while exposing those students to more opportunities to learn about themselves and to plan for their futures. The program has grown from a summer program to a year-around program of monthly meetings with students, as well as visits to community colleges, technical schools and four-year colleges. Students also have visited job sites, completed community service, heard motivational speakers, and participated in the ropes course.

Star Program students recognized were a Deisy Cuevas, Jonathan Merino, Renee Morgan, Leslie Serafin, Elizabeth Weckter, Caney Creek High; Jennifer Benitez, Cheyenne Dearmore, Richard Johnson, Gabriela Martinez, Cindy Perez, Jessica Rangel Resendiz, Conroe High; Britnee Flakes, Daly Santana Garcia, Salena Garcia, Kimberly Emerson, Luis Roman, Leticia Sanchez, Keghan Stokes, Hauke Academic Alternative High; Stephanie Bryant, Briana Green, Melanie Nunez, Oak Ridge High; Alexis Ruble, The Woodlands College Park High; Davon Bell, Prince Boyo, Jasmine Celius, Jeremy Davis-Harper, Phillip Dickey, Christopher Gilabert-Rodriguez, Joshua Jenkins, and Rolando Tovar; The Woodlands High.
