UPDATED FRIDAY SCHEDULE: The Woodlands Lady Highlanders serving wins at Magnolia Volley-Battle

MAGNOLIA, Texas- The Lady Highlanders (11-2) are on a roll in the Magnolia Tournament Volley-Battle held at Magnolia High School. After making quick work of Pflugerville Connally 25-8, 25-14 in the 8am contest, The Woodlands swept the Concordia Lutheran Crusaders 25-12, 25-13 in the 10am battle. They never trailed in the match after taking a 5-4 lead in the first set

The leaders for the contest were Courtney Quinn with 14 kills. Kendall Cook lead the way with 25 assists, Hailey Reier had the top total for digs with eight, and Julia Pasch led the way for blocks with three-and-a-half.

“That was one of the best matches we’ve played in a long time,” said Lady Highlander head coach Leslie Madison. “Concordia Lutheran is a good team, but we played really well.”

The Lady Highlanders will look for a perfect pool play record at 1pm against Lumberton, who lost it’s first match of the day in straight sets to Concordia Lutheran 25-14, 25-6 earlier this morning. If the Lady Highlanders win, they will be set up in prime position for continued pool play tomorrow and championship bracket Saturday.



Lady Highlanders take down Lumberton to finish perfect day at Magnolia Volley-Battle.

The Woodlands Lady Highlanders finished day one of the Magnolia Volley-Battle by dismantling Lumberton 25-13, 25-21 . The Lady Highlanders didn’t drop a set today, going 6-0 against their opponents.The Lady Highlanders didn’t play their best volleyball in the last set against Lumberton, but never really felt threatened.

The top performers of the contest against Lumberton were Courtney Quinn with nine kills and Rachel Reed with six. Hailey Reier served up three aces, and Kendall Cook again had 25 assists, just like the game against Concordia Lutheran.

The Woodlands take first place in the pool A division and will be seeded high for tomorrow’s continuation of pool play. The first opponent for the Lady Highlanders will be at 8am, with an opponent that is yet to be determined. They will be playing the second place finisher from pool C, featuring teams Klein Collins, Magnolia, Hutto, and New Caney. The game times tomorrow for the Lady Highlanders are 8am, 10am, and 1pm. After those games are finished, the teams will be seeded for championship bracket Saturday.



UPDATE: The Lady Highlanders will take on Magnolia at 8am, followed by Willis at 10am and College Station at 1pm. The Woodlands already beat College Station at home on August 12th in straight sets to kick off the 2014 season. They will be looking for a repeat of that affair tomorrow.
