THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Grab your fishing poles! The Woodlands Kiwanis 31st Annual Kids’ Fishing Tournament is this Saturday, August 30, at Creekwood Park. Everyone is invited to the family-friendly event, where toddlers and kids up to 16 years old will be able to catch and release fish from 8-10 a.m.

Registration for the fishing tournament is free and will begin at 7 a.m. It is recommended to come early to find a prime fishing spot! Free food, drinks and bait will be provided, just bring your favorite rod and reel and some lawn chairs.

John Haynes, a member of The Woodlands Kiwanis Club and tournament director of the event, is excited to see all of the kids having a blast during this Labor Day weekend.

“If everybody has fun, then they all win. That is our whole goal,” said Haynes. “It is just important to see families get out on the weekend and enjoy fishing and spending time together.”

Originally started by The Woodlands Bass Club, the Kids’ Fishing Tournament has grown tremendously over 31 years where families bond over fishing, food and lots of fun. An estimated 200 children will be fishing this Saturday along with about 50 volunteers helping to make the event happen. Local key clubs and high schools are helping put together the event with the collaboration of The Woodlands Bass Club and The Woodlands Kiwanis Club.

“There are a lot of volunteers that are involved,” said Haynes. “We also appreciate all of the sponsors that participate in this tournament and The Woodlands Township for allowing us to use the park.”

Each participant will receive a t-shirt, and trophies will be awarded for different categories including biggest fish and most fish caught.

“Sometimes this is a child’s first experience with fishing,” said Haynes. “It is just a good time for people of all ages to interact on Labor Day weekend, and of course, catching a fish is always fun!”

Creekwood Park is located at 3383 S. Panther Creek Drive. For more information about the fishing tournament this weekend, visit the link provided below.
