The Woodlands College Park High School wins 'Battle of the Bands'

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The College Park Cavaliers Marching Band wins the “Battle of the Marching Bands” sponsored by KHOU News and Carnival Cruise Lines! The announcement was made at approximately 6:45 a.m., on KHOU’s morning news program.

College Park was one of five schools in the finals of the competition. When the announcement was made and the trophy brought out, it was handed to the band’s director, Charlotte Royall.

“Awesome! Our kids are is truly awesome!” said Royall.

A panel of qualified judges selected by Carnival Cruise Lines, judged all eligible entries according to the following criteria: 33%) Sound; (33%) musical ability and (33%) style.

The Overall Winner and the four other finalists each received a trophy from Carnival Cruise Lines. The overall winning band will have the opportunity to perform on KHOU 11 News and be recognized in promotional spots to air on KHOU 11, in addition to a cash prize.

The students arrived at College Park at 5:00 a.m., Thursday morning with their band equipment, in anticipation of hearing the announcement of the winning band on KHOU’s morning news program. Upon the announcement that they had won, the band members broke out in a simultaneous cheer, and then they struck up the band.
